The Mountain School at Winhall was established in 1998 by a passionate group of parents and community members in the Stratton and Winhall area. From the beginning of the establishment of the school, a strong emphasis continues to be placed on the individual child through an intentionally small community deeply rooted in the mountain of Vermont. At MSW, we believe in cultivating curiosity in each student and creating a space for them to grow academically, socially, and emotionally preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey. We are so fortunate to have an extremely dedicated team of teachers who foster inquiry and learning in each student and truly know every child. 

Our Vision and Mission are for every student to develop the courage and resourcefulness to pursue a passionate and fulfilling path that leaves the world better for tomorrow. We establish an academic foundation of curiosity, confidence, and competence while practicing kindness to oneself, the community, and nature.

We live out the ethos of Vermont as our classroom, whether it be during OWLS, Forest Classroom, skiing and riding on Stratton Mountain, or welcoming the variety of experts, artists, craftspeople, musicians, and more living in the local community. We continue to seek more opportunities to work with our local community, and I encourage you to reach out with your ideas.
