After a relaxing summer at home and by the shores of Lake Winnepasaukee, I am thrilled to be beginning my third year as the Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher and fifth year here at The Mountain School. It marks the last year I will have my youngest son Casey by my side driving to school, as he will be entering eighth grade at MSW. Dustin, my 16 year old, will be in his third year at Burr and Burton.
Thanks to Mrs. Oaks, our classroom has new cubbies and shelves and is looking pretty spiffy. We also have some awesome new comfy chairs in the Reading Center. Check them out!
We have some exciting additions to curriculum for our students this year. They will be learning phonics through Fundations, which is a phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling program. Fundations is based on the Wilson Reading System and has a proven record of success. Kindergarten students will continue the Bridges Math Program with Ms. Spence, our math specialist, while Pre-K students will have math in our classroom with me.
Chris will be back with us this year, focusing her talents in the arts and crafts/ thematic learning center. Look for some creative projects and classroom art projects coming home in backpacks.
They will also be writing and illustrating classroom books to add to our classroom library. We will have them on display at our Open House, October 22, 2008 at 6:30. |
