The OPUS Project is the name for MSW's comprehensive thematic, integrated curriculum. Research shows that students learn better when they are able to make connections. The OPUS Project integrates all learning
activities together-from Language Arts to Science to Art to Technology in a teacher-created curriculum. Students also learn through core themes (i.e. "The American Revolution") where all learning objectives are aligned to that theme (History, Reading, Music, etc.).
Each Trimester, students participate in all classes while studying a common theme (see "Academics"). For example, during 5/6's Vermont Family Farms, students study Vermont farming and history (Social Studies), nutrition (Health), genetically-modified organisms (Science), and so on. At the end of each theme, students participate in a "Celebration," which allows parents and guests to observe both the process and product of learning. This Celebration could be one classroom or the entire school coming together to share in our
learning.
Please call the office and set up a visit to learn more about this creative approach to teaching and learning.
