It is such an honor to be entering into my tenth year at MSW. Over the years, I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with the most wonderful students, families and staff members. For those of you who do not know me, I have been working in early childhood education since graduating in 1991 from The University of Rhode Island. My husband Bob and I moved to Vermont from Rhode Island 15 years ago with our two daughters and live in Manchester. Olivia is a junior at UVM and Erin is a junior at BBA. They both enjoy coming to school as much as they can to spend time with my students.
After observing and learning about the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly in Vermont, we followed the Monarchs’ journey across The United States to Mexico. After applying for and receiving our passports, we boarded MSW Airlines at took off! Once we arrived in Mexico, we spent time discovering the geography, natural environment, culture and the history of the Aztecs and Mayans. While touring the countryside, we became fascinated by volcanoes and wrote our own folk tale about how volcanoes came to be. During our tour of Mexico we earned pesos for hard work and had a fabulous time shopping at the local Mercado.
Whe we return from the December holiday break, we will begin a unit on the moon and stars. This study of atronomy will segue into a unit on China around the time of the Chinese New Year. Teaching about China is very near and dear to me as I was fortunate enough to spend three weeks in northern China during the summer of 2004.
