Please allow me to introduce myself .
I am the new Special Services Director here at the Mountain School at Winhall. I have looked forward to the beginning of the school year since I started here back in early July. Then it was just Daren, Carol and Martha here at school, but no one else. In late August all of the teachers and staff members returned. We had a good 2 weeks working together getting ready for the start of a new school year. These first few weeks, although our busiest time, are probably our most favorite, we are getting back to teaching!
I've been teaching students in Vermont independent schools for over 30 years. My career as a special educator began in Brattleboro where I taught for 5 years. My husband Charlie and I then moved to Manchester where we built our home. In Manchester I first taught at the Mount Laurel School and then at Burr and Burton Academy until last June.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Salve Regina College, Newport, Rhode Island, a Master of Education degree in Special Needs from the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont and numerous post-graduate education credits.
I welcome an opportunity to speak with you about The Mountain School's vision to provide support to our students through an expanded Special Services program encompassing special education, 504 Accommodations and Education Support Teams. Please know the support services we speak about are not only for our students, but for their families as well.
I look forward to meeting all of you.
