Class Rules
On Monday we brainstormed a list of expectations, and everyone has signed an agreement that states that we will:
1. Listen.
2. Work hard.
3. Raise our hands.
4. Be kind.
5. Follow directions.
The consequences for not following these expectations are:
1. Friendly Reminder (Yellow card on chart).
2. Warning (Red card on chart).
3. Take a break in the classroom, reflect on poor choices, and have a verbal agreement on how to avoid repeating the behavior.
4. Take a break in a buddy classroom (Mrs. Thompson), reflect on poor choices, and have a written plan to avoid repeating the behavior.
5. Call home.
Conferences
Conferences will be scheduled in October. I will be contacting you to set up an appointment about a week prior to conferences. You may schedule a conference at any time during the school year if you have any concerns.
Correspondence
Feel free to call me at home or make an appointment to meet with me before or after school. Also, if you or your child has a question about homework, please do not hesitate to phone me at home. If I am not home, just leave a message. Many parents have also found it just as convenient to send me e-mail at lburnett@themountainschool which I check before leaving for home each day. I now have reliable internet access at home so emails will be answered in the evening as well.
Homework
Written homework will usually be assigned as follows:
Monday- “Choose Your Own Spelling Homework”, due Friday
Tuesday- Poetry assignment
Wednesday-Writing assignment
Thursday- Mrs. Burnett’s math class will have a Home Connection. Atrium Math (Mr. Ahlfeld’s
math) will have homework more frequently.
Students are expected to read every night. Homework will be considered part of the Student Responsibilities on the report card. There will also be several projects and/or writing assignments throughout the year that require more time to complete. For these, I will provide at least a two week written notice of the assignment before it is due.
Snacks
We will have time for a snack each day at around 10:15. I encourage you to send in a nutritious snack and drink for your child. Students should bring in a water bottle with a tight fitting lid so we can limit trips to the drinking fountain.
Birthdays
If you want to bring a snack into the class on your child's birthday, please feel free to do so. This is not mandatory. However, I do request that you give me at least a me at least a day notice if you wish to bring a cake and take pictures in the event there is a conflict with scheduled school or curriculum activities.
Clothing
Remember to send your child with appropriate outdoor clothing. We will have a recess every day after lunch, except on rainy days and days the temperature is below 10° Fahrenheit. Also, remember your child needs sneakers or gym shoes on days they have PE. (See attached schedule)

Our website can be found at: themountainschool.org. It is a great resource for newsletters and it has a calendar of events and important dates.
Our theme studies for the first trimester are:

Waves
We will be planning a field trip to Howe Caverns in New York sometime in October. All parents are invited to join us.
I think you will enjoy it as much as the children!
